Indian-origin Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir nominated as US Ambassador to Malaysia

Indian-origin diplomat Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir was on 17 June 2016 nominated as the next American Ambassador to Malaysia by US President Barack Obama.
He will replace Joseph Y Yun, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. 

India Gets First Women Fighter Pilots

History was created as the first three women fighter pilots of the Indian Air Force proudly brandished their stripes and wings, at the Combined Graduation Parade at Air Force Academy, Dundigal on the outskirts of the twin city.
The vanguards of the IAF roared into the sky and smeared the sky with tricolor as India joined the select few nations in the world that have women fighter pilots in their Air Forces when Flying Officer Avani Chaturvedi, Flying Officer Bhawana Kanth and Flying Officer Mohana Singh were conferred with the President’s Commission.

Launch of Korea Plus Strengthening India – Korea Relations

The Commerce & Industry Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Mr. Joo Hyunghwan, the Minister of Trade, Industry & Energy, Government of the Republic of Korea, today, launched Korea Plus, a special initiative to promote and facilitate Korean Investments in India.
An MOU for establishing Korea Plus was earlier signed between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Govt. of the Republic of Korea and Invest India, the National Investment Promotion & Facilitation Agency of India in January 2016. This MOU came as an outcome of the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to South Korea in May 2015.

India settle for silver medal in Champions Trophy hockey

India muffed three tries in the title-deciding shootout to settle for a silver medal in the 36th Hero Champions Trophy as they lost the final 1-3 against World Champions Australia.
India had won a bronze medal in the tournament way back in 1982 at Amsterdam.

Fancied Australia, looking for their 14th Champions Trophy title, faced a stiff fight from the Indians, who were playing their first final, but raised the level to come within striking distance of the title.

Chetan Chauhan named NIFT Chairman

Former BJP MP Chetan Chauhan, who had played Test cricket for India, has been appointed as the Chairman of the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology, prompting sharp reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party.
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal questioned the appointment of Mr.Chauhan, who is also the vice president of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), accusing the Narendra Modi government of assembling an army of ’sycophants’ in prestigious institutions.

Kerala Tourism bags four awards at ‘FilmAT’ International film festival in Poland

Kerala Tourism has won four awards at ‘FilmAT’ which is one of the biggest international film festivals dedicated to tourism, art and ecology in Poland.
  • ‘Responsible Tourism’ initiative started by Kerala Tourism has won three awards under categories of the Best Promotional Social Campaign, Protection of Nature, and Eco-Food categories respectively.

CBDT to soon launch ‘e-nivaran’ for speedy grievance redressal

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) will soon launch an E-Nivaran portal for speedy redressal of taxpayers’ grievances.
  • The portal will be launched for Delhi on a pilot basis within two-three weeks.

Sugar shares fall by up to 10% on imposition of export duty

Sugar shares fell sharply by up to 10% after the government imposed 20% customs duty on sugar exports.
  • Recently, Government has imposed 20% customs duty on sugar exports to boost domestic supply.
  • The duty has been imposed to restrict exports following sharp rise in global prices.
