First batch of three female fighter pilots commissioned

i. Creating history, the first batch of three female pilots - Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh were inducted in Indian Air Force fighter squadron. On successful completion of their training, the trio were formally commissioned by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

ii. Ms. Avani from Satna in Madhya Pradesh, Ms. Mohana Singh from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan and Ms. Bhawana Kanth, who hails from Darbhanga in Bihar.

iii. In February 2016, President Pranab Mukherjee had announced that all military combat roles will be opened to women in the future.

 Chandra appointed as Union Law Secretary

• Senior legal service officer Suresh Chandra has been appointed as Union Law Secretary.

Govt. approves Rs 2,070-crore highway project in Punjab

• The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 2,070-crore highways project in Punjab under its hybrid annuity mode to ensure faster movement of traffic between Chandigarh and Ludhiana.

Sunil Mittal elected chief of International Chamber of Commerce

• Sunil Bharti Mittal, founder chairman of Bharti Enterprises has been elected as the head of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), based in Paris, France.

Govt releases Yog Geet ahead of International Yoga Day celebrations

• Government has released a Yog Geet in connection with the celebration of International Yoga Day on 21st of this month.

• Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal has launched ‘URJA’- Urban Jyoti Abhiyaan Mobile app on the side-lines of ongoing two day Conference of Power Ministers at Cansaulim in South Goa.

• Veteran theatre and film personality Manimala Devi (90-year) has passed away.

Famous TV actress Ann Morgan Guilbert dies

• Famous Television actress Ann Morgan Guilbert died on 16 June 2016 after battling with cancer. She was 87.
