Talks Resume Between India and Nepal

Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Nepalese counterpart Kamal Thapa held bilateral talks on Friday, during which they decided to resolve the differences between the nations. This was the first top political meeting after Nepal recalled its envoy and cancelled its President's visit to India.

Indo-US-Japan Naval Exercise Starts in Western Pacific Coast 


India, the US and Japan have started the MALABAR-16 naval exercise off the Western Pacific coast, close to the disputed South China sea. Japan was included in the exercise as a permanent member in 2015, making the erstwhile Indo-US exercise a trilateral one. China, reacting to this, had earlier warned that Japan should not "heighten tensions" in the region.

India, EFTA Agree to Address Issues to Resume FTA talks

India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) has agreed to resolve the outstanding issues for resumption of long-stalled negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement. A meeting between the chief negotiators of India and EFTA was held in New Delhi.

SEBI Issues Stricter KYC, Disclosure Norms for P-Notes

Markets regulator SEBI has put in place a stricter KYC norms and disclosure regime for Participatory Notes. The aim is to make it tougher to use these offshore instruments without disclosing the money-trail and details of their users.

Govt Plans 25% Tax on Sugar Export

In an effort to maintain local supplies, the government is planning to introduce a 25% tax on sugar exports. Food minister Ram Vilas Paswan said the levy is aimed at curbing the country's exports and would help keep local prices under control. Further, sugar output in the country is set to decline due to a drought in major growing regions.

Delhi Government Renames Flyover after Sikh Icon 

 The Delhi government has announced to rename the Barapullah flyover in Delhi after Sikh icon Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. The decision has been taken when the country is celebrating the 300th anniversary of the martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.

AAI Bags National Award for Solar Power Projects 

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been conferred the National Award for Best Performing Central PSU for Roof Top Solar Power initiatives. It has installed 4.8 megawatt peak power (MWp) rooftop solar plants at 13 airports, generating approximately 51 lakh units of solar energy.

Govt to Invest ₹75k cr on Highways Upgrade in UP 

The Central Government will invest around ₹75,000 crore in expanding highway infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh in the next two years, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry said.

Telangana to Set Up 12,500-acre Pharma City near Hyderabad 

The Chief Minister of Telangana state Mr. K. Chandrashekhar Rao has ordered to setting up a ‘Pharma City‘ on 12,500 acres of land in Rangareddy and Mahbubnagar districts.

Opening batsman KL Rahul became the first Indian to score a century on his ODI debut, after registering 100*(115) against Zimbabwe in the first ODI of the series on Saturday. He is the 11th batsman in ODI history to have achieved the feat. The previous best by an Indian on ODI debut was Robin Uthappa's 86 against England in 2006.
